Don’t miss the 2012 Transit of Venus! You won’t witness another one until 2117!

Weather permitting, SAAA members will be gathering on the hilltop in Bulverde to view the Venus Transit starting around Noon on June 5th for some solar observing, before the transit. They will have several solar telescopes and telescopes with solar filters at the hilltop.

The University of Texas at San Antonio is hosting a public event to view the Transit of Venus on the 4th floor patio of the Science Building from 5:00pm until 8:10pm., weather permitting. The Science building is between the parking garage and the Arts Building, from the Arts Building, it is the building with the dome. UTSA will have out at least 3 telescopes, one white light, one in orange hydrogen alpha, and one projection telescope.

If you are attending either event, we suggest that you arrive no later than 4:30 to maximize your viewing time (and to avoid rush hour traffic).

The Transit starts at 5:09 p.m., and ends at 11:49 p.m. Sunset is at 8:31 p.m.. All times are CDT.
